Our [NEW BLOG!] name ;)

We've been deciding for a while that we need a new blog name.
We felt that YA Vixens was just too misleading, since we're both been reading a LOT of New Adult, and to be fair... We didn't want to have a genre specific name anymore. So, We decided to keep the Vixens name, and embark on a new adventure as: The Reading Vixens.

PLEASE Continue to follow us, over at the new blog. WE LOVE YOU ALL! You've been there for us as the YA Vixens, and we would be honored if you would re-follow us as The Reading Vixens.

Review: Keeping Never - C.M. Stunich

Keeping Never - C.M. Stunich

Tasting Never

Keeping Never is the 3rd book in the trilogy "Never Say Never". What a great trilogy it was, at that. In the first Novel, you hear about Never's back story. In the second novel, you get more insight into Never, and you start hearing about Ty's back story. In this novel, you get FULL disclosure on Ty's past.

First off, I love Ty and Never. They're so blunt, honest and beautifully broken. Being broken only means you need to be fixed. Ty is the glue that holds Never together and Never is the heart in Ty's soul. I'm seriously addicted to the tortured couple scene.

I was in love with Ty McCabe before, but now? Now I'm head over heals infatuated with him. If he was a real person, I mean straight stalker status. I know I've said this time and time again... but Ty will go down in my TOP 5 Best Book Boyfriends EVER. And by ever, I mean I'm pretty sure he'll ever be replaced by anyone. Ty is so many things. He is tortured, Obnoxious, Unfiltered, but he is also passionate, caring, understanding and loving.

Never is just her usual basket case of messed up. Ty holds her together, keeps her strong.  As she is battling harder than ever with inner thoughts, Ty is working harder than ever to keep her safe. Just to plain old keep her. In this novel, Never is going to face the ghosts of her past. Nothing could be harder than facing everything that ruined you.

If you haven't started this series yet, I strongly recommend that you do. I won't promise you'll love it, because everyone has different taste. However, This series is amazing.  Definitely worth looking into.

C.M Stunich You are beautiful and amazing. Don't ever change! Oh, and I love your filthy mouth! Your writing is out of this world and should never be under-rated. The Tasting Never series was simply flawless. You've made this series come full circle. I can't wait to read your other novels, especially your new one, [Paint Me Beautiful]

Waiting on Wednesday #30

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly Meme hosted by Breaking The Spine

This week at YA Vixens, we are highly anticipating:

Beth's Pick:
When I first picked this, I instantly thought of Miss Peregrine's home for Peculiar Children by Randsom Riggs. I LOVED that story, and I especially loved how the photographs tied in. This has a different premise, but I really think that the photograph tie in will be absolutely stunning.

In the Shadow of BlackbirdsIn the Shadow of Blackbirds - Cat Winters
Hardcover400 pages
Expected publication: April 2nd 2013

In 1918, the world seems on the verge of apocalypse. Americans roam the streets in gauze masks to ward off the deadly Spanish influenza, and the government ships young men to the front lines of a brutal war, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. Sixteen-year-old Mary Shelley Black watches as desperate mourners flock to séances and spirit photographers for comfort, but she herself has never believed in ghosts. During her bleakest moment, however, she’s forced to rethink her entire way of looking at life and death, for her first love—a boy who died in battle—returns in spirit form. But what does he want from her?

Featuring haunting archival early-twentieth-century photographs, this is a tense, romantic story set in a past that is eerily like our own time.

Kait's Pick:
I don't know how I feel about the whole "hate on the rich just because they're rich" thing, but this still seems like a good story. And by now you know I am obsessed with contemporaries.

The Distance Between Us The Distance Between Us - Kasie West

Paperback320 pages
Expected publication: July 2nd 2013

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

**Don't forget to stop by our Book Buzz on March 18th. J.C. Reed is giving away a $50 amazon gift card and an e-copy of her book!**

Surrender Your Love - J.C. Reed

"Tragedy may hit all of us in one way or another, but fate's not our enemy" "We are." By locking yourself away from the world, you choose your own mistakes and destroy any chance of ever finding happiness. You cannot control life, but you can choose who you are and what you make of it."

J.C. Reed you are fantastically amazing. For your first debut novel, you've DEFINITELY got a hit on your hands! You've delivered something extraordinary. I devoured this novel. I loved the story line and how you introduced the characters. The quirky and snarky comments from the characters made my night. I can't lie.. I love me some witty sarcastic banter and sexual tension. Well, Surrender Your Love has plenty of all of that!

I got this book as an ARC from the author for an honest review. However, if I'm to be completely honest, My review would be a bunch of beautiful uses of filthy words smothered together with incoherent sentences. Literally a one sitting book. Well, you might need to take a breather or two, cause there are SOME scenes. Lawd Jeebus. The build up.... and then "dkl!?fgjhlk!d4j5h!?y29sdfg" [If you're wondering, that's my I CAN'T DEAL spaz out lingo.]

New Adult has become my ultimate favorite genre. I'm not saying I've grown out of YA... but a girl likes her sexy time with her book boyfriends. I do have to say, When I started this book I was nervous about it being just like 50 Shades. BUT, yes.. BIG FAT BUT! It turned out to be NOTHING like 50. I also don't think it should be compared to 50 shades... even though it will be, over and over. It's not the same... it just has the sex theme in common.

I got completely drawn in and wrapped up in this story. I just couldn't stop. Don't let the cover fool you! There is so MUCH more to Brooke and Jett's story than it may seem. Secrets, scary pasts, lies, tragedy, love, lust, betrayal... the perfect blend to any successful story! I'm so excited to see that I only have to wait until June for the next novel. Damned cliff hanger that wasn't exactly a cliff hanger.... but yet so intense you sit back and say 'oh shit.' This can only go one of two ways.... BUT WHICH WAY!? Now i'm gonna stop rambling on and on so that you can get your paws on this RIGHT MEOW! I mean it. Seriously, Go. Read. This. MEOW.

Review: The Evolution of Mara Dyer

The Evolution of Mara Dyer - Michelle Hodkin
The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #2)

Well...... MIND BLOWN

"There will come a moment when there's nothing you want more than us. Together. When you're free of every fear and there is nothing in our way."

"I would rather die with the taste of you on my tongue than live and never touch you again. I'm in love with you, Mara. I love you. No matter what you do."

If those two quotes don't make you immediately want to go out and buy this book, I CAN'T even deal. I LOVED The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. To say that the "sequel" in this series is a filler, would be a out and out lie. This book seriously keeps you guessing from the first page to the very last. Let me start off with this, if you thought that the first one shook you, be prepared for this one!

Michelle Hodkin delivers a hauntingly beautiful read, again. I swear every time I said alright, last chapter then its bed time... a new and startling revelation happened and I COULDN'T put this down. I honestly feel dumb-founded right now. I'm so in awe of how much work that Michelle had to put into this series. The descriptions, the research, the crazy un-explainable story line.

I was completely psychologically baffled. One chapter I thought Mara was crazy insane. The next I thought she was completely sane. The support characters in this novel were absolutely amazing. Jamie with his quick witty banter, and his absolute confidence in Mara. Then there is Noah... with his unconditional love and complete devoted faith in Mara. Boy do I love that overly pretentious cocky bastard! My heart raced with anticipation so many times during this book.

Well as all amazing books end, Hello Cliffhanger. This one... made me want to cry. I stared at the page.. Flipped to the next. Flipped back. I couldn't believe it! Of all things!? THANK god this is a trilogy, because I don't think I could deal with this being final. All in all, the romance was stunning and the creep factor was crazy out of this world! Honestly, Michelle Hodkin took psychological thriller to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL with this series. I can't wait to see what the final installment has in store for us!

ARC Review: On Every Street by Karina Halle

On Every Street (The Artists Trilogy, #0.5)

Title: On Every Street
Published: March 12th, 2013
Author: Karina Halle
Pages: 100+
Rating: 5/5 stars

I was given an ARC of On Every Street by the author for an honest review. This is no way influenced my review. This review is spoiler free.

On Every Street is a prequel to Sins & Needles, but you can read it before or after Sins & Needles. Or you can read it as a standalone, but I strongly suggest reading Sins & Needles simply because it's amazing.

Ellie Watt has never had a stable life. She is the daughter of two con artists who abandoned her long ago, after a drug lord ruined her leg. Now she's out for revenge. She changes her name to Eden White and sets her sights on someone close to Travis, the drug lord. Javier Bernal is beautiful, dangerous, and absolutely irresistible to Ellie. As she finds herself falling for Javier she begins to question if love is stronger than her need for vengeance.

“When I choose Javier as my mark, I never thought my mark would choose me. Because that's what Javier had just done. I wanted to win over his heart so I could get what I wanted. But I had a feeling he was about to get to my heart first.”

Karina Halle's writing is like a drug. Dangerous, destructive, and absolutely addictive. After finishing On Every Street I need another hit. Sometimes knowing how a story is going to end softens the blow a bit, but this was not the case for On Every Street. Although this is a novella, it doesn't read like one. It has as much substance as many full length novels I've read. This book started a war between my head and my heart. I knew I shouldn't fall for Javier, but much like Ellie my heart didn't care.

“I want to do more than survive. I want to live.”

Ellie is a character I already loved. She grew on me when I read Sins & Needles and I liked seeing a different side of her. Her chemistry and attraction to Javier is so strong it's begins to take on a life of it's own, becoming this almost tangible force that has complete control over her. I was reminded of how quickly love can make us forget the path we have laid out in front of ourselves.

“You are all mine, even if you run. I will find you because a soul needs its other half to truly live.”

Javier is so much more than I expected. I have a weak spot for the bad boys[don't we all?], so I knew I would have a Javier crush. I didn't think I would feel so strongly for his character. I was terrified and excited by his fierceness[RAWR!], but what really won me over was his soft side he reserved only for Ellie/Eden. There's something so sexy about a man who can protect you, but when that man can also express his feelings it's like the total package[minus the whole drug cartel business]. Javier is one of the most loveable bad boys I've come across.

“It's funny what love can do to a person. It strips them of everything, even their instincts. It creates a new world for you to adhere to, a new world where you break the rules just to keep the love intact.”
At the end of the book, the very last page, I just stared at the blankness for a minute. I had to digest what I read, and let my raging emotions simmer back to normal. I finished On Every Street with a heart that was a little heavier and eyes that were a lot redder. I am having serious withdrawals from Ellie and Javier already. I can't wait for Shooting Scars, the second book in the series.

Cover Reveal: Kaya's Curse by Stina Rubio

Kaya's Curse
Stina Rubio

Blaine and Kaya have been together since freshmen year in high school. Although it was love at first sight, it took some convincing on her part. Blaine and Kaya are complete and total opposites. Kaya is a free loving Rastafarian, who loves reggae and has thick blonde dreads. She fell for Blaine an uptight conservative, who hates music and anything other than school. Blaine has a one track mind and that mind is getting him into Harvard Medical. But with everything weighing against them, they found true love.
In a blink of an eye, everything in their life changes, Blaine’s life spirals out of control, losing the one thing he was sure he wouldn’t. When life changes in a blink of an eye, Blaine makes a choice. The question is: Is the choice he made a good or a bad one.
Love survives everything, even death……
With all magic comes a price……

We have a special excerpt here:
I ate my sandwich in peace, with only the birds for company. Here’s the thing about feelings: I felt like I was ok out here, I felt like no one would catch me. Somehow my feelings betrayed me, I looked up and out of the corner of my eye I saw blonde dreadlocks moving through the bleachers. She was far enough away still that I could have gotten up and left. I was just about to when she called my name.

“Blaine,” she waved. When I looked at her I was stuck. My body froze, I was immobile. And then I did something I could have sworn was someone else. I waved at her, when she saw I was finally responding to her like a normal human, she gave me a mischievously sexy grin. My heart stopped, could she be getting prettier? Was that even possible? It was; the proof was walking toward me right now. She had her dreads tied back, but some had escaped and were floating through the air as she quickened her pace. Her shirt was red with the words Rasta written on it and Bob Marley’s face within the lettering.

“I have been looking for you all day,” she explained as she closed in. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of vulnerability as she stood in front of me.

                “Why?” I questioned.

“I don’t know really, I thought maybe—we could talk more,” she shrugged. When she did a stray lock fluttered in front of her face, making the sun reflect off of the golden highlights.

“Why would you want to talk to me? It’s not like I give off the friendliest appearance,” I started gathering my things. I was going to leave like I had with all the other people who had tried to talk to me. If anything I needed to leave, she was causing me to question my sanity.

“That’s the thing, I don’t think you’re as mean as everyone thinks you are. There is no way someone who looks like you could be that big of an asshole. You have pissed off a lot of people today; it was funny hearing all the girls complain, saying you wouldn’t give them the time of day. There was rumors spreading, everyone thinks you’re gay,” she stated seriously.

I laughed; I laughed so hard it rattled my chest. “Gay? What would give them that impression? I swear this is the exact reason I tried not talking to anyone. Drama, it seems like they can’t live without it.”

“Sounds a lot like high school; Oh—wait we are in high school. You just seem to have missed the memo,” she teased.

“No, I didn’t miss anything. I just don’t want to act like a child. Why do you need drama? It’s pointless, we are in school to learn and get ready for the real world.” It was getting exhausting telling this to kids my age. It was good advice, but instead of taking it they called me names.

“This is how you prepare for your life after high school. If you think the real world doesn’t have drama, then you are sadly mistaken my friend. If anything the ‘real world’ as you like to call it, is worse than high school,” she stated .She was getting more and more attractive as the time passed. My breathing started to hitch, I needed to get away from her.

“Well—this,” I moved my eyes to her and then to the ground. “Was nice, but I have to go. I like to get to my classes on time,” I waved awkwardly to her and set off.

“You can run Blaine but you can’t hide. I usually get what I want.” I didn’t know what she was talking about. All I knew was I had to get away, and as far as I could.
I laughed to myself. She was so amazing, and she was right, she got what she wanted, me. She never gave up, she was relentless. No matter if I hid in the library or bleachers, she even found me in the bathroom a couple times. Every time she would find me she would tell me I needed to be more creative with my hiding spots. Kaya was mine now, and I was glad she didn’t give up on me.
“You ready Blaine?” asked Mr. Juno the principle.
“I was born ready,” I shook his rough plump hand and walked onto the stage. Kaya was sitting in the crowd with all the other kids in our graduating class, it was a sea of white hats. Standing out with her blonde dreads piled on top of her head. I smiled at her beautiful face when I spotted her. I looked to the front and there my mother and father were sitting. My mother had a sour look on her face as my father checked his watch repeatedly. My smile faltered, and as it did Kaya caught on to my worried look. She waved both her hands in the air to get my attention, and when I looked at her she flashed me. My mouth fell open, but I was only in shock for a minute. I shook my head and walked up to the podium.
Time to give the best damn speech anyone has ever heard, “Fellow students, teachers, and family. We are here today to celebrate the ending of a chapter, and the beginning of another. My name is Blaine Macalister if you didn’t know, and I have been honored with the title of valedictorian. The last four years I have been here at Angelo Rodriguez High have been the best years of my life. I have found myself, as I am positive most the student body has. I have met some of the finest people in my life,” I looked at Kaya then at my best friend Gabriel. He was the guy who talked to me at orientation, telling me Kaya wouldn’t want anything to do with me, boy was he wrong. And that’s the reason we became friends, he was in awe at how I had her chasing me all over campus. “I am honored to call this school ‘my school’. I’m supposed to be up here telling you what we are going to have to look forward to in life. And I will, life is going to be kick ass after school,” everyone in the crowd gasped. They weren’t used to me cussing; I was after all--the chosen one. “I wanted to give you something you all would remember, something that would leave an impression on your minds for the rest of your lives. Just remember one thing, and everything else in life will be easy, it will be beautiful if you choose it to be. Love—love is what I want you all to keep in your hearts. It’s the only thing in life worth fighting for, without it we are just hollow, soulless vessels. So, if you do anything in life, something you know will be worth fighting for, love. Love your family, love your friends, and find that someone who makes you want to be a better person. Love is the reason I treasure this school the most, I have met my soul mate walking the halls of this school, or more accurately, hiding from the halls in this school,” I chuckled. “So I thank you all, and I thank the universe, as weird as it may seem. My life began at this school, and it taught me everything my mother had always been trying to tell me, love is what is important. I love you mom, and Kaya,” I found her in the crowd. “I love you with my heart and soul Goldie Locks,” I blow her a kiss, and then ripped open my shirt, where my chest was covered in words. It said, “Without your love I would have been a soulless vessel.”
My mother was crying, and my father was looking at me like I had lost my mind, and maybe I had. He hadn’t raised me to act like a crazed love sick pup. I was raised to be reserved and strong. It seems like my mother won, she has always wanted me to open up more, and I knew by looking at her now that she was the most proud she has ever been. is the mother of three energetic boys (Daniel Jr. age 8, Zion age 6, Ezra age 1) they are her everything, the Princes' of her heart. She has been with her husband Daniel for 11 yrs., and still going strong. A true California native (although she sometimes questions why she is so pale, vampire perhaps? Only kidding) Writing has always been a passion along with read. When she was a child she wrote short stories and poem, getting negative attention from teachers, asking if she was demented. Turns out she wasn't, she just has an over active imagination.
Along with Kaya's Curse, Stina has written another book that is NA paranormal The Forgotten Princess.
