Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
Pages: 417

Rating: 5 out of 5

From Goodreads:
Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

There are times when life gets completely in the way. And it definitely has been in my way these past couple weeks. I took far too long finishing up this book, especially considering how much I loved it.

“Wishes are false. Hope is true. Hope makes its own magic.”

I was fascinated by every bit of this book. When I found myself on the last page I wanted to cry, I needed more. Everything was so beautiful, rich, and poetic. I loved the characters, especially Karou[I love her name too] and Brimstone. I'm usually disappointed with storyline twists because I can always predict them, but there were many twists that I never saw coming. The idea of good and evil play a huge role in this book, and I guarantee you'll find yourself unsure of which side is which.

This book took me on a journey to a stunning world full of magic and mystery. I can't wait to get my hands on Days of Blood & Starlight, which has an expected publication date of November 6th.
